Samsung yesterday launched the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge which bring more refinement to Galaxy S6 portfolio and bring back features Samsung loyalists have appreciated in the past. These are the best phones ever to come from Samsung camp and here are 7 reasons why.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge eliminate all design flaws of the previous generation models and further enhance all things good about Galaxy S6 family design. To accommodate bigger batteries, the new Galaxy phones have grown a bit thicker, but with Note 5 like curved 3D glass on the back, it feels remarkably comfortable when held in hand.
The company uses toughened glass on front and back and a metal side frame sandwiched in the middle. The fingerprint sensor is clubbed with the home key just below the display. Another improvement is that the camera bump on S6 has been significantly reduced.
To push performance beyond limits, Samsung is using Exynos 8890 processor which is the successor of the Exynos 7420 running in S6 series. The chipset uses 4 high performance M1 cores and 4 Cortex A53 cores for power optimizations.
The company has also provided with bigger 3000 mAh and 36000 mAh batteries for better gaming performance. Both handsets use a cooling system to avoid heating and throttling during long gaming sessions. On the software front, Samsung has provided features like Vulcan API and gaming launcher for gaming oriented environment. Both handsets are powerful enough to smooth high-end Android gaming.
Enhanced low light performance
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the first phones to use dual pixel technology, which is otherwise used in professional canon cameras. The camera uses two photo-diodes in place of one for each pixel site, which means each pixel can be treated as a focal point. This in turn means that the AF speeds are crazy fast even while recording videos in low light. The low light performance is further improved by large size pixels and rear camera sensor and the presence of wide F1.7 aperture lens on top, both of which facilitate absorption of more light.
A part of larger ecosystem
To achieve more out of your Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge+, you can combine them with the Gear VR headset and the Gear S2. If you pre-order your handset before 18th March, the Gear VR will be bundled in the package.
Samsung’s Gear VR is a compatible 360 degree VR headset which is similar to Lenovo’s Theatremax on principle, but offers much better experience owing to better design. Samsung has also provided with a wheel to adjust lens focus and a track-pad to interact with apps and games.
MicroSD storage is back
Many fans were disappointed when Samsung decided to axe MicroSD card support in Galaxy S6. This time around, the company has relented in favour of loyalists and provided with hybrid dual SIM card slot. This means you can use the second SIM card slot for adding up to 200GB of secondary MicroSD card storage, which shall satisfy even the most demanding users.
Resistant to dust water
With Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung brings back water and dust resistance. Both phones are IP68 certified, which means they can withstand submersion in 1.5 meter deep water for up to 30 minutes. Also, Water resistance isn’t followed by those ugly, inconvenient flaps covering the charging and audio jack port. With new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, you are well protected against accidental spillage or rains.
