1 Million Tizen OS powered Samsung Smartphones Sold In India

Samsung has today announced that it has sold over 1 Million Samsung Z1 units in India since January 2015. This is a very interesting update since Samsung Z1 is company’s first smartphone running proprietary Tizen OS. Its fascinating that a new OS based smartphone has done this well.


Samsung claims the easy to use nature of its Tizen OS is appealing to first time smartphone users and has driven the company to this success in short span of time. Further trying to connect with Indian users, Samsung also highlighted that the software and user interface of the Tizen platform has been developed at Samsung’s Bangalore R&D lab, and the Z1 smartphones are manufactured in the Noida facility.

Though Android and iOS have emerged victorious in OS wars, there is still room for a new entrant especially in entry level market, where Android and iOS to deliver capable user experience. Samsung Z1 offers a simple software that runs well and on top of it all, offers Samsung branding, which is definitely alluring and valueable in a sub 5,000 INR price range.

Samsung later plans to use Tizen OS for IoT (Internet of Thing) devices like smart camera’s, Televisions, Refrigerators, etc

Mr. Asim Warsi, Vice-President-Marketing, Mobile and IT, Samsung India, said, “Our insights have shown that consumers hesitate to move beyond the familiar basic and simple interaction with their mobile devices. Keeping this in mind, Samsung Z1 features an easy to use UI that offers a smooth and fast experience to ensure a seamless migration to smartphones.  Samsung Z1 combines a great feature set along with a rapidly growing app ecosystem to offer consumers a differentiated Smartphone experience. We are happy to see the response the device has received and will continue to grow the range for Tizen- powered smartphones.”

Reminding you of specifications, Samsung Tizen Z1 includes a 4 Inch WVGA display and is powered by Dual-core 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum SC7727S chipset, with 768 MB RAM, 4 GB storage and 64 GB MicroSD card. Other features include 3.5 MP front camera, VGA front camera and a 1500 mAh battery.
